As the founding member of Blue Ocean Strategic Capital, LLC, Ted oversees all aspects of the company’s operations, including the investment committee’s management of portfolio assets. In addition to working directly with clients, Ted contributes his expertise to industry-related publications and speaking engagements across the country.
He has written articles for the Journal of Accountancy, the CPA Journal, the Journal of Taxation and the AICPA Wealth Management Insider. Ted has lectured at Syracuse University and has been interviewed by publications such as Practical Accountant, Accounting Today, Kiplinger Personal Finance Report, Investment News, the Christian Science Monitor and Consumer Reports on 401(k) plans, marketing strategies within CPA firms, disaster recovery, Medicare, Elder Abuse and many more subjects. Radio stations from all over the country have interviewed Ted on topics ranging from year-end tax tips to Social Security and Medicare to the bankruptcy bill. For the past two years he has been a featured planner on Syracuse’s NBC affiliate, WSTM-3, taking viewers’ calls regarding financial planning and investment topics and offering planning concepts to the viewers on the nightly news program.
Ted is also an appointed member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Virtual Grassroots Panel, Social Security Task Force, and Planner Magazine Editorial Advisory Board. Ted serves as Chair of the AICPA Eldercare/PrimePlus Taskforce and is a liaison to the AICPA PFP Executive Committee.
Ted is past president of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants Syracuse Chapter. In 2002, Ted completed a two-year term as Chairperson of the NYSSCPA Personal Financial Planning Committee after serving as a member of that committee for nine years. He is a former member of both the NYSSCPA Tax Division Oversight Committee and its Professional Ethics Committee.
Larry’s 24 years of experience includes financial advising and/or experience as a registered representative. Prior to becoming an investment professional, Charlie learned to appreciate the importance of financial planning and investment analysis as a certified public accountant. Since 1987, he has gone beyond the numbers, combining technical skill with a compassionate spirit to provide the holistic support his clients need to achieve their goals – both for themselves and for their families.
A graduate of University of Detroit Mercy, Charlie earned his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting with honors. He went on to earn his certification as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner. Following his accounting career, he spent several years as a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch before making the transition to Raymond James in 2008 and becoming a senior vice president of investments and an investment management consultant.
Charlie spends his free time playing an active role in his community. A devoted coach of youth sports, he has also served as a board member for a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding employment for the disabled and as a former president and longtime board member of Novi Catholic Central Dads’ Club.
A native of Redford Township, Michigan, Charlie is a longtime resident of Novi, along with his wife, Kathleen, and children, Patrick, Christopher and Andrew
Prior to becoming an investment professional, Chris learned the importance of financial planning and investment analysis as a certified public accountant (CPA). A graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy, Chris earned his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. Subsequently, as a member of an accelerated University of Detroit Mercy College of Business program, he earned his MBA. Following graduation, he spent several years as a CPA with Deloitte before making the transition to Raymond James.
Chris spends his free time volunteering, golfing and training for athletic events. He'll always accept an invitation to play euchre, golf or beach volleyball. A native of Novi, Michigan, Chris is currently a resident of Northville.
Mason has a passion for helping individuals and families with the difficult decisions they may face while investing and planning for their future. Mason graduated from Michigan State University's Eli Broad College of Business with high honors. He excels at putting full effort into every unique situation he is faced with. “Nothing is more rewarding than hearing that I have given people the peace of mind to navigate their retirement,” says Mason.
In his practice, it is important that all three pieces of the retirement planning puzzle come together while working with his clients: investments, social security and taxes. By providing clarity on all three of these topics, Mason believes individuals and families have a much better understanding of their personal circumstances and the things that they can accomplish financially.
As a frequent speaker at retirement education workshops, Mason strives to help people become familiar with financial concepts in an easy-to-understand way.
Mason holds his FINRA Series 7 and Series 66 licenses along with his Life and Health insurance license.

Mr. Robert A. Bryant joined the firm’s estate and business planning group following six years of experience with a certified public accounting firm. Mr. Bryant is a graduate of Wayne State University (B.S., 1991); he received his law degree from the University of Detroit (J.D.,1994); he received his Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Detroit (M.B.A.,1994); he received his Master’s in Divinity from Liberty University, and his doctorate from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
Mr. Bryant’s primary areas of practice are estate planning, lifetime gifting strategies, trust administration, gift and estate tax returns, business succession planning, IRS tax controversies, eldercare law including Medicaid and Veterans Benefits.
Mr. Bryant is a former instructor at the University of Detroit Law School. He also lectures frequently on eldercare and estate planning before the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (“ICLE”), Certified Public Accounting firms, brokerage firms and trade associations.
Mr. Bryant has published a number of articles on tax related matters and estate planning appearing in professional journals. He assisted in writing chapters on succession planning in Advising Closely Held Businesses in Michigan and the Michigan Business Formbook published by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (“ICLE”). He is also a member of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan.
Kal is a Senior Principal in the Federal Tax and Employee Benefits Practice Group of Miller, Canfield Paddock and Stone, PLC. Kal has been characterized as an expert in employee benefits, specifically the design, implementation and overseeing of the administration of tax qualified retirement plans, tied in with lifetime and post-death planning with a sensitivity for the administrative concerns of plan benefit providers.
He has a diverse practice, representing governments and their agencies, labor unions as an employer and Indian tribal governments, as well as privately owned businesses.
His primary focus has been the design, implementation, compliance and administrative issues for employers ranging from sole proprietors to those with more than 15,000 employees.
Because employer retirement benefits represent such a major portion of most client's plans for retirement, his practice includes estate planning for retirement plan distributions, as well as overall estate planning. His primary focus in lifetime planning includes health-care concerns and coordination and effective use of advance directives.
This has expanded his practice to raise his sensitivity to protecting retirement assets from claims of creditors. With that in mind, he’s been involved in “breaking” a spendthrift trust for the benefit of a trust beneficiary where the beneficiary filed in bankruptcy after inheriting a 7 figure 3rd party trust with an “inherited IRA” as its only asset.
